If you’re out and about on the Internets today, you may have noticed that a few of your favorite websites are blacked out or otherwise censored in protest of PIPA and SOPA, two broadly written and possibly very damaging bills running through congress. If you don’t know what all the fuss is about, check out the video below. Then, consider contacting your representatives to tell them to vote no on SOPA and PIPA.

Aquarian History

So, this is something I meant to show a long time ago, and it sort of just kept falling through the cracks. Now that we’re about done with the Aquaria arc, I figured it is finally time to show a larger version of the carved temple entrance.

I spent a lot of time on the tunnel, and at full size it shows the history of the Aquarians and Aquaria.

Click to see a larger version. Among the history is Zap’s meeting with the Aquarians, Daedelus, the building of the Aquarian temple, the Aquarians creating the floating islands and the Aquarians taming the sea serpents.

Artist Editions Now Shipping!

The artist edition books finally got here and I’ve started drawing in them and putting them in the mail! Thanks so much to everyone who ordered for being super patient while we waited on the delayed books. You guys are amazing! Needless to say, I’m a little backlogged with these bad boys at the moment, but I will be pouring over them over the next few weeks to make sure that everyone gets a nice drawing. Thanks again to all of you who ordered one. Some of your requests are pretty great. :3 I will do my best to make it worth the wait!

If you want to get in on the artist edition books you can order yours in the store. They come with a drawing of up to two characters and of course my signature. Also, generally a note of some sort. That’s just how I roll.

Zap! Volume 1 preorders & mega book sale!

So, things have been pretty busy behind the scenes here at Zapland. In addition to managing the site and drawing pages I’ve been remastering volume 1 for re-print. Our books used to be through keenspot and when we parted ways with keenspot, we were left with very few of the books in stock. So for the past month I’ve been revamping pages for the printer and double checking proofs so that we could get our very own, creator-owned and published Zap! books out.

Now the books are being printed and should be ready to ship in early February. I’m really excited about them! They have beautiful, bright glossy covers, more vibrant interior colors and are in general prettier than the keenspot edition books.

These books are 140 pages, that’s 4 pages longer than the 136 page keenspot editions! But I made sure to keep the story pages the same because I didn’t want to screw those of you who have the keenspot editions and just want to collect the whole story in book form. The extra 4 pages in these are bonus art and the Excelsior Unleashed side comic omitted from the original keenspot editions. Both books are manga-sized 5 x 7.5 inches.

These babies are on pre-order now. There are artist edition and standard edition available. Artist edition comes with a drawing of your request, up to two characters!

Zap! Cast Doodles

I thought it would be fun to do some doodles of the entire cast at the start of the new year. Due to the way the comic is structured, I sometimes go a whole year in between drawing certain characters (when was the last time we saw Prez Billings & co??) so for my warmup sketches this week I did sharpie sketches of each character. It was a fun exercise and I’d like to do a follow up series in a year or so.

Anyway, there it is. Hope you enjoy it!

Zapling Yohshee sent me this awesome shot of their Billy squid! I’ve heard from a few people who have gotten their squids, so I’m super glad they’re starting to arrive at their new homes! Send me your pictures!
