This is called “dramatic irony.” It is when the reader knows things that the characters don’t. You’re SUPPOSED to know that Gunner is the Serpent. It creates tension in the story. :)

So, here we have proof. Gunner and the Serpent can’t be the same, they’re both standing here. Who plays another part in the story, and mysteriously isn’t here? Right. Oh-poop-guy.
So, we can conclude Oh-poop-guy is the Serpent, and can change his eyes.
