532 | Dead In the Water

532 | Dead In the Water

June 13, 2011 | 1:59 am, by Pascalle Lepas

Aw, Holly. I’m really sorry.

So, I got laid off this week, out of the blue! Which means I am now another of America’s unemployed. Not too great, you guys! So I’m trying to dust myself off and figure out what’s next for me.

Between now and then I’ll have some extra time to work on the comic! So, I put up a little donation bar at the top of the page for extra updates. If the $200 goal is reached then you guys earn an extra weekly comic page! This will help me pay some monthly bills and maybe stay on top of things while I figure out what to do. I know this was something that we had discussed in the past, but that I didn’t have time to make happen. Well, not anymore! X__X

I might also open up a few commissions, too. So shoot me an email if you are interested in getting one.

On the bright side, I will have plenty of time to finish up the remaining artist editions and get them all shipped out! Hooray! Thank you so much to everyone who ordered one and thanks doubly for waiting so patiently while I got through them. All of your support really means a lot to me!

And thanks to everyone for reading! I appreciate you all as well. Tell your friends!

xoxo

Paz

    Bird Men to the rescue.
Or should that be Fishy Bird Men to the rescue?

well… damn, sorry to hear about that. Wish you all the best with your
plans, hope it works out whatever you’ll be doing. Gonna chip in on that
donation as well, this comic definitely deserves it.

  • Thatguy

It’s hard to believe but even in just the last few pages the art has somehow phenomenally improved.

Same. Hopefully you get another job soon. As good as more updates would be, a proper paying job would come first in my opinion. If I wasn’t living on a budget, I might chip in on the donation as well.

  • My deepest condolences on the Unemployment.
Surely your tremendous talents will earn you employment elsewhere in a timely manner!

  •  Thank you so much! I’m actually considering a career change. I’ve kind of wanted to become an art teacher for awhile now and that sort of job would give me more time to devote to my own art and comics. So, we’ll see if I can make that happen. It is a little scary. I’ve been a web dev for four years now, so that whole process was really familiar to me.

“So, I got laid this week”
Cool! Sounds like we’re off to a great week. Hmm, wait a minute there…*squint*
“So, I got laid OFF this week”
    Oh, this week bites!

  •  Ha ha ha! It’s like “Oh, yeah!” and then “Oh, no!”

  • Wingnut

Well, that is a bummer indeed. And I know the feeling of unemployment all too well. (I actually have a job interview in about 3 hours from when I’m typing this.)
I hope that all goes well for you especially if you go full career change.
Kinda ironic that the day you report the loss of a job that the title is “Dead in the Water”.

  • Allstate Pirate Insurance. Is yarrr ship in good hands? :3

You should work for a comic book company like marvel, dc or darkhorse

Have to support those things we enjoy. Only proper to thank someone for
all the time and effort they’ve put into such a great comic especially
during hard times. Hope you are successful with the art teacher position.

I wish you luck in this.

I wish you all the best in finding a new employment (I hope it is in correct english … i am not english mother tongue).
At the moment, I am unable to donate, but as soon as I’ll be able again, I’ll certainly contribute in helping you with your bills.
And yes, your art is really improved in this last pages :)

I am sorry to hear about you losing your job.  I’ve been reading your comic for some time now, definitely one of the few things I look forward to while deployed.  Good luck as you change careers!

Methinks the ship is about to wake up, dust itself off, and pull itself back together, throwing Naveed and her goons off in the process.

    …..

    Poor Naveed…

I wonder how things have gone for you since then? It’s 4 months later now i guess. How are you holding up.
Sorry to hear about that. I must commend you for your strength in all this. Well, from what i can see. It’s amazing that you keep working at this while going through all those things. It’s very much appreciated.

  • KryptonAngel

Any luck yet? I am praying for you ^_^
Thank you for all the time you have put into this amazing story. We all appreciate it beyond conveyable words.

  • KryptonAngel

Art teachers FTW! You would be a great art teacher

  • Negatron

    Pterodactyls were reptiles, not birds.

  • If you’d written “fired” instead, someone would have assumed arson… or cannons.

It is safe to say some of us are missing a few screws.

  • They’re Aquarians. Aliens.
Despite their similarity to pteranodons (pterodactyls didn’t have head-crests, kthxbye), they’re probably not even in the animal kingdom as we know it.

SO… although your statement is correct, it is also utterly irrelevant to the present circumstances. Trapper is just as entitled to think of them as “Fishy Bird Men” as you are to think of them as “Pterodactyls” … Alright?

  • Crestlinger

The last time they did this it was to contain an explosion. I’d be leaveing. Now.

  • Speedy Marsh

Now she’s going to want to get laid off every week

  • Speedy Marsh

Nooo! The Ebony Duck can’t sink yet! I haven’t seen any “lame duck” or “All hands on deck” comments yet.

  • Speedy Marsh

… or maybe I have, and my memory has been wiped. (That happens a lot at my age)

  • John Smith

Don’t ships like this have…like…automatic firefighting systems, or something?

  • Karma has no mercy for ship-smashers.
