Efrem looks a little weirded out, doesn’t he?

Even through another body, Gunner likes to play with hair, doesn’t he?

(Maaaan, Will’s face looks thin in panel 3. Gunner, feed the boy. Does he not feel the hunger pains remotely via the psychic control?)

Given Efram’s expression, it looks like Gunner is showing him a nasty rash on the other (not visible) side of the arm in the last panel. =P

    Nice artwork as always. =)

  • You’d be weirded out, too, if you had to talk to your boss through a living puppet.

  • Plucky Pooka

    So creepy. Poor William.

    wait, wait, wait,….

let me make sure we all see what is happening here.

zap is in a large tank full of an unknown green, glowing and bubbling liquid…

william is being mind-humped by gunner and is basically his marionette/labradoodle…

efrem is surprised and insecure about what is occurring,…

so basically what we are watching on this page is essentially,..a saucy puppet show.

bender would be proud,…or disgusted depending on whether or not someone starts shooting DNA at others.

  • Joy

Awww… Zap’s head looks so tiny when the hair is held back by that helmet.

  • Linuxthekid

    I sense betrayal

  • Daniel Kauwe

poor william…his body is just a tool for gunner :(

“(Zap looks like a lava lamp)”

You know that some people are going to want that as a purchasable piece of merchandise now, right?

  • Zap night lights!!!

  • Wfclancey

The story is moving so slow these days, I’ve pretty much lost track of whats going on.

  • Lucky for you there’s over 600 pages of free archives for you to re-read if you need a refresher!

Plus, last week I linked to the relevant archive pages for this scene. :)

  • William… you have some SHINY hair! Is it because of unwashed-lankness or just to make you look AWESOME?
That’s William’s left arm in the last panel, right? Maybe he has a Dark Mark!

  • Dgeniu

I seriously miss Zap! Come on, lava-lamp-boy, go back to being awesome :(

  • Rinikex

Yeah, Efrem and I agree that Gunner should be taking better care of William’s body… poor Will.

And Gunner is just going to let William and the Elementaros die? OK, you win. I’m finally beginning to dislike that sexy mofo.

  • 3E

I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m pretty sure Efrem and  Zap-That-Was were totally in cahoots.
    I <3 this comic :)

It might be interesting to have a listing of the types of psychic powers are known in this universe.  Obviously telekinesis, telepathy, mind control, possession, precognition, ESP, psychic healing {but this one may be a combination of powers}…etc… but what about some of the more…esoteric powers…like electrokinesis, photokinesis, pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, teleportation.

Just what are the limits… or at least recoreded limits of psychic powers in this universe?

  • Zap, Gunner and Efrem each have different strengths. Zap’s is precognition, Gunner’s is telekinesis, and Efrem is an empath (he can sort of influence the emotional state of those around him, though that hasn’t come up much in the comic).

Zap’s precognition allows him to plan ahead for things. His brute psychic power is also the strongest of the three. Gunner was trained as a healer because of his strength in telekinesis, but he obviously uses his strength for other things. Efrem has sort of always used his power to control situations and people. Everyone who meets him likes him, though they can’t always say why. His brute psychic strength is the weakest of the three.

The psychic phenomena is pretty new among humans, hence why the GEF is capitalizing on the fears of the people and gathering all the psychics up into one place under the guise of educating them to use their powers.

  • Gillsing

I thought he let the Elementaros go? And William is a human, right? Gunner wants ALL humans to die.

This is somewhat bittersweet. Normally, I don’t like it when the support case is forgotten or only used to show how powerful an enemy is and how much the main protagonist has improved. But the main character of this story has been, pretty much, removed from said story for going on 5 years now. We had the flash of him walking in the door and the mental flash from Renoa but that’s it. So that begs the question, how much time has passed since the Zap v Gunner fight at the carnival attraction?

  • Zap was last in the comic in 2009, during his flashbacky, clue-riddled reprogramming/dream sequence with Gunner and Efrem. Hardly five years! (The comic is only like 8.5 years old!)

Only a few days have passed in the comic since Zap was kidnapped by Gunner.

We’re holding Zap back on purpose. It’s not like we’ve forgotten about him. It will be worth it. :)

  • Theinen

Hoho. Forgot that. The burning tree and all. Touche lol. Yeah, I get that it’s building up events around him and even hinting at who he was. That’s why I was wondering the time lapse. When you’re reading things as they update like this, you tend to forget they’re meant to be read straight out and the story’s time passage isn’t nearly the same as when you’re able to update. I guess I was trying to get the right perspective, more or less.

those pipes around the tank make it look like Zap has wings. Pretty cool comic btw. ^_^

  • A thousand internets to you for getting the reference!

I was really hoping people would pick up on it, but I wasn’t going to point it out!

  • Anonymous

like all good artists and writers, you definitely understand that the audience cannot be led but only shown to instances of truly great work. and that is all from this aspiring but very poor writer. lol

btw…what does a thousand internets get me? A Zap plushie?! Please say Zap plushie.
*brings out the big guns: puppy eyes* O_O

  • I do hate that I can’t update more! I’m always trying to get my act together to get more than one page done a week, but it just isn’t happening with my current life schedule.

And I hate when people get huffy about the updates (not you!) as if they think I am just sitting on a big pile of unpublished comics, totally holding out on them.

I was actually somewhat fixated on where the hoses on the floor seemed to be going….but, you know what, i dont want to know.

    just,..just forget i said anything.

  • They go into the big dialysis tanks to filter the liquid, or into some floor pipes for disposal. :)

  • Ramification

    There, there. :3
I know what it’s like to have so much to do, to want to do it, and darn life (mostly the day job) just gets in the way.

  • Lia

You know what? You’re awesome :) I’ve just done a huge archive binge and I’m so impressed with your art! Thanks so much for making this available to all of us!

  • Aw, thanks Lia! Glad you liked it! :)

  • Theinen

lol You comic nazi!!! But, after thinking about the passage of time storywise, it gives you a whole new perspective on Gunner’s ruthlessness.

I mean in only a few days he’s used the satellites, gotten one of them killed, thus shaking their loyalty in them. He sent Naveed on an emotional roller coaster, used her as well (shocker). He then went on to kill a prominent psychic and enslave his son (Will pretty much was his son). Shaken Efrem’s faith in what they’re doing. And he just doesn’t care.

Through it all i keep getting this feeling that he’s throwing it all in their face saying “I’m doing it because I can. What you gonna do about it?” That’s especially painted in this page. He’s neglecting Will’s body because he knows he can fix it to do what he wants done. Serpent indeed.

  • NoisyParker

At some jobs I have had to talk to my boss’s boss through a living puppet, but that isn’t as weird.

  • Benji

so you mean zap sees the possible future?and gunner just pushes stuff round?

  • Benji

wait sooo…you not sitting on a pile of comics holdibg out on us…man was i ever wrong feel like dud now….i kid i kid just kidding

  • Dgeniu

and Efrem is all lovable! :D

  • Ramification

And then Zap develops adamantium claws, breaks out of the, beat the ever loving anti-life out of Gunner and proceed to run into the wild forests with a life-time mental trauma and psychosis which will be tormenting him forever more!

    The end.

Honestly to me it reminded me of Jenova…

You are my hero for the Final Fantasy reference. ^_^ And it kind of does look like Jenova’s set up…

I’m glad Efrem knows that Gunner’s in control of William. I’m not too confident in the characters’ powers of observation lol.
