That chunk of scenery was already there – Zap made his entrance atop it, and William was hiding in it. (You might need to go back a few pages to see the scenes I mean.)
Dat badass psychic shield. I just love it. Can’t help enjoy thinking of how it’d work: Maybe the generator is Reona’s mind herself? It can’t be linked to Zap… or could it? Who’s to say transmitting psychic energy isn’t somehow super efficient… hmmm

Is it me (and I hate to be nit-picky), or is the hand grab drawn backwards? It seems that the right hand is doing the grabbing, but that should be the weapon arm, not the arm with the sleeve.
Since there is no thumb showing, it is harder to tell, but it looks like it is a back-hand grab, Shouldn’t that put the pinkie in the middle of the collar, and be the shortest side of the hand?

The way I’m looking at it it’s right. William is standing off her left. It’s natural for her to reach back slightly (palm down) and grab his collar with her left (not robot) hand. That means her left hand thumb should be on the right side of the drawing and not visible. So everything checks out to me.
I think it’s counter productive for her to reach out with her right robot hand, she’d have to rotate her whole torso to grab him then awkwardly run?
Well the only solution is this: we’ll just all have to find cute boys to practice grabbing their collars so we can work out which hand works best.

Oh. My. Gosh. I just figured it out. The sield is a Chekoves Gun! Zap gave Reona the means to rescue him! It’s like chess! This has been one giant game fo chess the entire time! Zap wasn’t just a few steps ahead of Gunner, he had the whole thing planned out from the very beginning! ZAP IS THE ULTIMATE CHESS MASTER!!!! Reona is his secret trump card, the pawn that is carefully and secretly protected until it reaches the otherside of the baord and becomes a second queen! Just a few more moves and CHECKMATE GUNNER!!!!
Errr…sorry to those of you who know nothing about chess. To those that don’t, I highly suggest you learn to play, it is an AWESOME game! Don’t let anybody tell you differently! Besides, all the best generals play chess. So does Xanatose. ~____~
“How are we not dead?” Is now my favorite William quote and the bewildered/terrified expression on his face is just priceless. So is the expression in the next panel. I have faith that William will survive this ordeal. I feel he is going to be a key figure in the rebuilding of the government and making peace with the rebels. Besides, if I understand correctly the hierarchy of the government is in ashes anyway and he may very well be the last high ranking officer they have. Can anyone say ‘field commission’?

Heh… There’s been hints, foreshadowings, etc. of pretty much everything going according to the puppetmaster’s plan- but Gunner wasn’t the puppetmaster… Biggest hint that this was the case was in #556. Gunner just doesn’t know precisely how badly he’s been played by Zap…yet.

I believe that there was also a flashback scene which showed that Zap was keeping secrets from Gunner.
I’m curious what all this trickery has really amounted to though. Has Zap now been made stronger than Gunner, and Gunner feels safe knowing that he’s controlling Zap? And Reona is now about to reunite Zap with himself, so he’ll have eaten Gunner’s cake and will soon throw it in his face as well? (No, not by projectile vomiting. That wasn’t what I was going for at all.)

Well, yes, I know about the foreshadowing in the past, and I do remember that Zap was hiding things and stuff, and had things planned out but never to the ~extent~ in which I just figured it out. I mean, yeah. He seems to be some sort of diabolical chess master that we aren’t fully aware of and all, but everything just finally ~clicked~! He wasn’t just a few steps ahead. The ENTIRE thing has been planned out form the very ~beginning~! Reona, classified as his dream girl, must have been the trigger for the whole thing. Ephram found her. Zap enlisted Gunner feline girlfriend to help him get things started once he got word from Ephram. Everything after that, which seemed so totally RANDOM, was planned out exactly to specification from some sort of prophetic dream in the past.
Okay, I’m rambling now.

That was actually JUST before everything started. Efrem returning to the psychic group was the catalyst.
Imagine being Efrem and all “Hey, found your dream girl. Kind of dated her for awhile. I let Naveed cut her arm off, but if you still want her, she’s right there.”

Well that certainly takes away the ‘everything was planned from the start’ idea. Then again, it still could have been planned, just not really put into place until he returned. Everything else, though, every after Zap’s memory is wiped…that was all part of the plan. And yes. That means even the GIANT SPACE SQUID was part of the plan! And getting molested by that tentacle lady! IT WAS ALL PART OF HIS PLAN!!!

Well, I think of ‘the start’ as Zap having Naveed erase his memories, which happened right after Efrem returned.

Yeah, that;s pretty much the real start, but my original implication was when he first had a dream involving Reona. But I realize now that isn’t true. However, even if the starting point was when Naveed erased his memories, that’s still a LOT of planning ahead.
And the thought that some of those more random incidents were, indeed, planned is just ludicrously funny. Please tell me they were planned. Pretty please? Because that just makes Zap all that much more hilarious.

You could probably count on one hand the number of non-“reality” shows/movies/comics that actually feature characters taking potty breaks like in real life and you wouldn’t even need to be the 6 fingered man. Why ask why over this one?

It takes a lot of guts to take that step. In order to save your friend from himself/save the galaxy you have to basically let your own memories be erased. I don’t think many people could do that. Props to Zap.

You don’t see them every moment. You only see the parts that push the story forward. If someone taking a dump pushed the story forward, we would have included it. :P
