Honestly… I think Gunner in his heart knows Zap can kill him and I think he wants him to. He is not ‘thinking’ rationally.. he tells himself he can’t and won’t be stopped… but I think he actually wants someone to stop him. so he can justify giving up… ‘well they killed me that’s the only reason I failed…’! Its all wrapped up in ego and anger and losse and he his own growing desires just to be happy.. but he feels its a betrayal to his people who were all wiped out to just let go.. like he wants to do. but he can’t let it go… because of ego. So he will destroy everything he enjoys and abandon the offered happiness he feels in Naveed’s arms to dogmatically push on to be Vindicated… at least to his ego.
Its sad really. No, I don’t hate Gunner I pity him… which is something HE cannot abide! The ‘pity’ of others… his Ego won’t stand for it.

Too true. But Gunner FEELS he is justified! He feels he is the righteous Avenger of his race! He CAN’T Back down.. to do so would say to his Ego that a “lesser race” was justified in killing off his race. If he were to let it go.. it would in fact to him be agreeing with the actions of the CEF.. that it was indeed a justified Genocide… and that he Gunner is not part of the most powerful race in the galaxy but just another orphan of a dead race. His Ego can’t let that pass.. he can’t stop..no moatter how much his heart may want to .. the more he enjoys Naveed’s presence and the hope of a ‘happily ever after’ the more he sees it as a betrayal of his people!

I ran out of pity for Gunner a long time ago. Along with the other feelings you mentioned, he has a heaping helping of self pity.
If Gunner didn’t have his panties in such a wad, he’d realize that he’s already accomplished what “needed” to be done. He’s avenged his people, and prevented similar genocides.
Gunner is feeling too sorry for himself to realize that he is becoming what he hates most – a power hungry, genocidal maniac. Forget destroying the GEF, he should just become its next president.

Yeah.. true. Gunner has let his rage and ego blind him to the fact those ACTUALLY Responcible for the destruction of his race have been punished and are COLD DEAD! But this is not about justice for Gunner.. its about “Getting Even”… which is not justice at all. To GET EVEN with a Genocide.. you have to commit Genocide..which makes your moral high-ground totally invalid!

Yeah.. the greater evil would be to let him keep hurting people to find his ‘satisfaction’ that will never come. Next it will be, “well now I’m going after those races that helped humanity kill my race..!”
Gunner’s hunger for venagence will never be satisfied.. because he is unwilling to face the pain of his loss.. and move on. He keep stoking the fires of his hatred.. until it consumes him… and everything he touches!
